Underwater noise and commercial divers
Submitted by spums784 on Thu, 2010-08-12 14:40I had a call today from one of my commercial divers who manages a team of divers. Currently his team is working at a site using Kirby Morgan helmets. Nearby an operation is driving metal piles into the ground. The divers are finding there is a lot of noise and vibration in their helmets and making them quite uncomfortable.
Does anyone have any suggestions how the levels of noise can be measured underwater? Has anyone been involved in a similar case? Any suggestions?
Diving children
Submitted by spums8900 on Fri, 2010-06-25 17:02I have had a few requests lately for 12 yo children to have diving medicals. If we are to succumb to these requests, what are the main issues I should address?
What evidence is there for the danger in 12yo vs 14yo children?

Migraines, PFO and AS2299
Submitted by ClintonGibbs on Tue, 2010-06-08 14:41Hi all,
Would love a consensus opinion on an interesting situation I've had up here in Townsville.
Saw a 25yo Marine Biology PhD from the university who has had issues with obtaining her AS 2299 medical. Amateur diver for nearly 10 yrs, and has completed >200 dives without complication.
SCUBA after blood donation
Submitted by Ascot on Fri, 2010-05-28 00:34Dear Forum,
Does anyone know of an evidence base relating to a recommended safe interval post-blood donation before resuming diving?

Blood pressure & Diving
Submitted by alan on Fri, 2010-05-21 20:22I understand that diving with blood pressure is dangerous, but is it still so when you are taking medication. I have logged more than 1000 recreational dives but have recently started taking medication. Covercyl 5mg.
The reason I ask is I had planned on doing a commercial course.
Thanks in advance for replies

Hyperbaric treatment tables
Submitted by frawleyg on Tue, 2010-04-13 16:39Can any one explain the origin of the 14m and 10m treatment tables. In particular why these were chosen and why the timing and number of airbreaks are differnet in each unit? I presume there have also been some local evidence to support changes to 18 m tables other than the RN 61 and 62.
Asthma

Routine CXR
Submitted by Paul_Molloy on Thu, 2010-03-18 12:26Is it reasonable to omit the routine CXR from the Dive Medical Assessment?
