POSITION AVAILABLE: Registrar - Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine
PERMANENT/PART-TIME/CASUAL/SHORT-TERM: 6 Months Full time at the Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine, but capable of matching term in Anaesthesia or Emergency Medicine to make up 12 month appointment.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: MBBS and fully registered with the Australian Health Practitioner regulation Agency. Candidates are required to be fit to dive as per AS2299.1 or AS4774.2. Acute Care Emergency Medicine/ Anaesthesia Experience at Registrar level preferable but not essential, and will consider GP (senior) registrar or Physician trainee registrars with interest in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine

SHORT DESCRIPTION OF POSITION (250 WORDS MAX):
The Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine is the State referral centre for Diving Emergencies and is the only civilian Recompression Facility in Tasmania. Tasmania has a population of around 25,000 active divers with 2000 professional divers. The Hyperbaric facility conducts over 2000 patient treatments annually and manages approximately 20-30 cases of decompression illness and 60-80 acute non-decompression emergencies. The RHH Hyperbaric facility has full critical care capability. The facility is fully accredited as a special skills rotation with The Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, and is fully accredited for Special Interest Group Certificate training with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Other specialities or GP’s (+ GP Trainees) with an interest in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine may also apply to work as registrars at the facility. The Facility is approved for the 6-month Diploma in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine with the South Pacific Underwater Medicine Society.
Hyperbaric Specialist, Nursing and Technical Staff are involved in a number of International Collaborative Research Projects and Multicentre Randomised Trials, and will provide support to successful applicants in undertaking research projects. Protected time is provided for teaching and attendance at speciality training programs in addition to support to attend the short course in Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine held each year at Prince of Wales Hospital in Sydney.
Specialists at the RHH Department of Diving and Hyperbaric Medicine have close links with the professional diving industries. There are opportunities for visits to professional and offshore diving operations whilst working at the facility.
